Subject: Early close for the holiday on Friday, December 21

Dear Colleagues:

To allow everyone an early start to the long holiday weekend, [Company] offices in the U.S. will close at 2 p.m. in local time zones on Friday, December 21. As in the past, some managers may need to delay the departure of some employees, depending on work requirements.

We appreciate everyone's hard work and commitment to [Company], and wish you all a safe and enjoyable holiday with friends and family!

Regards,
[Upper Management]

In other news, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street opens tomorrow, for which [info]aiskon was somewhat psyched. We may well step out to see it before she heads off to the whirlwind of holiday travel she has in mind. (Me, I'm going home at 2 tomorrow and hibernating until next year.)

I was waiting on that e-mail, and I was starting to worry because it was getting late in the week for them to announce early close. :)
They've been doing it last minute for a while now, though. I guess they don't want people to plan for it like it's free vacation instead of a bonus or something.

They didn't tell us we were going home at 12 last Friday until the donations ceremony at 10:30ish. (I don't know if that's a company-wide thing. We usually get a free hot breakfast and a half-day one of the Fridays in December in lieu of an actual holiday party.)
Our branch actually still plans a holiday party, but it's in January and serves as more of a kick-off to the upcoming year instead of a year-end party. I like the breakfast/half day idea though, maybe I ought to suggest that to the rec committee. :)
