There was a similarly themed voicemail, also timed at nine-thirtyish pm.
Guess when I got these messages? If you guessed "when I got into the office on time", you get a gold star.

I left the house but had to shovel the driveway, and then the road down the hill was slippery, and there was a traffic light and a pickup with a trailer hitch and I didn't get stopped in time to avoid colliding with the hitch. So then we had to pull over and exchange info. And when I finally got to work the first person I saw said, "Didn't [boss] call you? We're closing early today." When I got home, sure enough, there was a message on my answering machine. Apparently he called about the time I was having the accident... when I was already on my way.
It's not like last year, where we had the awful slush-storm and the recording had a 10am opening. I fought my way through several inches of half-frozen slush, in my little compact car, over the tallest hill in the county (between two valleys), walked in at 10am to hear them announce that they'd just decided to close the building. Apparently they knew that they should close entirely, but the company had just transitioned building services to another state and nobody could get ahold of anyone with authority to make the decision until then.
