I have to say, I don't really care for that statue. The body reminded me immediately of Stalin and Mao statues, and what's up with the closed, folded arms? MLK was an inspirational leader who urged people to stand up for their rights. Confrontational, sure, but this pose looks individualist and sullen. In all the famous photographs of King he's pointing or raising his hands, engaging the crowd he's addressing. The body of this statue doesn't even appear to be modeled on a picture of MLK at all. Why wasn't one of the iconic poses from his "I Have A Dream" speech used?

That kerfuffle about the statue is ridiculous. I think it's great, actually, although I agree that a more familiar pose, like that when MLK was in "preacher mode" might be more obviously recognisable. As for "too confrontational", what on earth was the man about?
